Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment

IPL is an intense pulsed light technology used to address a variety of eye conditions, especially dry eye.

Meibomian glands, located in the eyelids, produce a lipid layer of the tear film that helps prevent excessive evaporation of tears. When these tears do not work, dry eyes occur.

In patients with dry eye, these pulses of light penetrate the tissue, heat the Meibomian glands, helping to dilate them and facilitate their expansion. This improves the quality of tears by increasing lipid secretion and improving eye hydration. The patient experiences less discomfort, a feeling of grit, itching or dry eyes.
