WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE FALLS IN THE EYES:

Cataract is a very common pathology that we can suffer, more likely, from the age of 60.

Inside our eyes we have a kind of small, transparent lens called the crystalline lens. Because the crystalline lens is transparent, it allows light and images to pass through.

A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, usually a gradual process that can take years. The loss of transparency in the lens leads to decreased vision, difficulty seeing in bright light, and glare in the dark.

WHAT IT IS TO HAVE TIRED EYE OR PRESBY:

It is the loss of the ability to focus on near objects. The lens is a fundamental part of our eyes' focusing system, and after a certain age it begins to lose functionality.

Suddenly, we notice that it is difficult for us to read and see focused at close range and that we need to move the mobile or the book away with our arm. At the beginning in many cases, we do not know what is happening to us and we simply think that we are just tired, so we continue to function without giving it any importance, until many times we end the day with a headache and exhaustion.

Age-related farsightedness, or presbyopia, typically begins around age 40. The age at which presbyopia starts depends on several factors, primarily the individual's previous prescription. For example, a nearsighted person will notice difficulty focusing on near objects later than their peers. With a farsighted person, the opposite will occur.

WHAT IS THE OPERATION OF FALLS:

The surgery consists of the removal of the lens and immediate replacement with an artificial lens called an aphakic intraocular lens.

Currently, the evolution of science allows this surgery to be performed in a less invasive way through micro-incisions without sutures.

The intervention is performed with an anesthetic eye drops to avoid discomfort or pain to the patient and with an intravenous compound so that, even if they are conscious, they feel relaxed. The postoperative period is much lighter and faster than before.

How a cataract operation is performed and an intraocular lens is implanted

WHEN THE FALLS OPERATION IS PERFORMED:

Today, cataracts are operated on early, as soon as they begin to affect our vision and make it difficult for us to drive at night or limit any other activity in our lives.

A long time ago it was necessary to wait until the cataract was in an advanced stage to proceed to its surgical solution and the visual result was not as satisfactory as it is today. In recent years there have been great advances in the field of cataract surgery and in the lenses that are implanted.

IN WHICH CASES A SINGLE-FACAL LENS IS IMPLEMENTED AND IN WHICH CASES A MUTIFOCAL LENS:

There are basically two types of intraocular lenses that are implanted in cataract surgery:

Monofocal intraocular lenses that allow you to see far away without glasses.

And multifocal intraocular lenses that allow you to do without glasses for distance and also for near vision , depending on each case with limitations.

AND SO... WHAT IS A CLEAR CRYSTAL OPERATION?

It consists of removing the lens and replacing it with a multifocal intraocular lens with the aim of providing the patient with near and far vision without the need for glasses, even when a cataract has not yet appeared or is in its very early stages.

The surgical procedure is basically the same as in cataract surgery but the reason or purpose is different.

TYPES OF MULTIFOCAL LENSES: differences, indications and limitations

Technological advancements in recent years have led to the development of increasingly sophisticated lenses, such as premium lenses , which allow individuals to choose the most suitable visual solution based on their specific needs. It is important to consider the limitations of each lens type, particularly for near vision.

Depending on the prescription, the other ocular parameters, the age and also the lifestyle and professional demands of the patient, one type of lens or another will be more suitable. The most suitable lens for a person who has to drive a lot may be different than the most suitable for another person who spends many hours looking at a screen.

The most commonly implanted intraocular multifocal lenses are bifocal lenses , which provide very good visual results at near and far distances, although not as satisfactory at intermediate distances.

Currently , PREMIUM trifocal intraocular multifocal lenses are also being implanted , which allow very good near and far vision but mainly represent a great evolution compared to the previous ones in terms of vision at medium distances, which is greatly appreciated in such common activities as reading on a tablet, working on the computer or seeing the car's instrument panel.

Today, there is also the option of extended focus or comfort intraocular multifocal lenses , called EDOF PREMIUM, which provide excellent visual results at far and intermediate distances. Their design has the advantage of largely avoiding glare or halos at night, as well as a decrease in contrast sensitivity. However, these lenses do not allow for satisfactory near focus without glasses; glasses are still necessary for reading and detailed work.
