WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE FALLS IN THE EYES:

Cataract is a very common pathology that we can suffer, more likely, from the age of 60.

Inside our eyes we have a kind of small transparent lens called crystalline. Thanks to the fact that the lens is transparent, it allows light and images to pass through.

Cataract occurs when the lens becomes cloudy, it is usually a gradual process that can take years. With the loss of transparency of the lens there is a decrease in vision, visual difficulties with changes in light intensity and glare in the dark.

WHAT IT IS TO HAVE TIRED EYE OR PRESBY:

It is the loss of the ability to focus closely. The lens is a fundamental part of the focusing system of our eyes and from a certain age it begins to lose functionality.

Suddenly, we notice that it is difficult for us to read and see focused at close range and that we need to move the mobile or the book away with our arm. At the beginning in many cases, we do not know what is happening to us and we simply think that we are just tired, so we continue to function without giving it any importance, until many times we end the day with a headache and exhaustion.

The tired sight or presbyopia happens after 40 years. The age of onset of eyestrain depends on several factors, mainly the previous prescription. For example, a nearsighted person will notice that they begin to have difficulty focusing closely later than their peers their age. With a hyperopic person, the opposite will happen.

WHAT IS THE OPERATION OF FALLS:

The surgery consists of the extraction of the lens and immediate replacement with an artificial lens which is called an aphakic intraocular lens.

Currently, the evolution of science allows this surgery to be performed in a less invasive way through sutureless microincisions.

The intervention is performed with an anesthetic eye drops to avoid discomfort or pain to the patient and with an intravenous compound so that, even if they are conscious, they feel relaxed. The postoperative period is much lighter and faster than before.

How a cataract operation is performed and an intraocular lens is implanted

WHEN THE FALLS OPERATION IS PERFORMED:

Today, cataracts are operated on early, as soon as they begin to affect our vision y They make it difficult for us to drive at night or limit any other activity in our life.

A long time ago it was necessary to wait until the cataract was in an advanced stage to proceed to its surgical solution and the visual result was not as satisfactory as it is today. In recent years there have been great advances in the field of cataract surgery and in the lenses that are implanted.

IN WHICH CASES A SINGLE-FACAL LENS IS IMPLEMENTED AND IN WHICH CASES A MUTIFOCAL LENS:

There are basically two types of intraocular lenses that are implanted in cataract surgery:

Intraocular lenses monofocal allowing see from a distance without glasses.

And intraocular lenses multifocal allowing dispense with glasses from far away and also from near, according to each case with limitations.

AND THEN .... WHAT IS A TRANSPARENT CRYSTALLINE OPERATION:

It consists of removing the lens and replacing it with a multifocal intraocular lens in order to provide the patient with far and near vision without the need for glasses even when a cataract has not yet developed or this is very incipient.

The surgical procedure is basically the same as in cataract surgery but the reason or purpose is different.

TYPES OF MULTIFOCAL LENSES: differences, indications and limitations

The technological advances of recent years have allowed the development of different types of increasingly advanced lenses such as the so-called lenses PREMIUM that allow choosing the most suitable visual solution according to the visual needs of each person. It is important to take into account the limitations of the visual result of each type of lens, mainly for close up.

Depending on the prescription, the other ocular parameters, the age and also the lifestyle and professional demands of the patient, one type of lens or another will be more suitable. The most suitable lens for a person who has to drive a lot may be different than the most suitable for another person who spends many hours looking at a screen.

The multifocal intraocular lenses that have been being implanted the most are the type bifocal, They provide very good visual results from near and far, although not as satisfactory at medium distances.

Currently intraocular multifocal lenses are also implanted PREMIUM trifocals, that allow a very good near and far vision but that mainly represent a great evolution with respect to the previous ones in regard to vision at medium distances, which is greatly appreciated in activities as common as reading on a tablet, working on the computer or view the dashboard of the car.

Today there is also the possibility of intraocular multifical lenses extended focus or comfortcalls EDOF PREMIUM that provide an excellent visual result at far and intermediate distances. Due to their design, they have the advantage that they avoid a large part of the possibility of having glare problems or night halos, or of noticing a decrease in contrast sensitivity. In return, this type of lens does not allow satisfactory close focus without glasses, it is necessary to continue using them for reading and detailed activities.
